A teal seahorse with a curled tail and a small golden crown perched on its head, giving an otherwise simple ocean motif a bit of unexpected personality. At 32 x 52 stitches, the tall narrow shape stitches up quickly without sacrificing the seahorse’s distinctive curve.
About This Pattern
The crown is what sets this apart from a standard seahorse pattern — it turns a straightforward coastal motif into something with a bit more charm, good for a kid’s bathroom or a beach house that wants ocean themes without leaning entirely nautical-stripes-and-anchors. Stitch it alongside our dolphin pattern for a matching ocean-themed pair you can frame together.

DMC 959 (Seagreen - Medium) and 3810 (Turquoise - Dark) cover 531 of the 930 total stitches — well over half the design — so the body and outline are largely two colors before you add any shading. The gold crown adds just two more colors (742 and touches of others) in small amounts, making it a manageable detail rather than a separate technical challenge.

Tips for Stitching This Pattern
Stitch the body in 959 and 3810 first to get the full curved silhouette established, since the seahorse’s characteristic S-curve is easy to throw off if you start with the crown or fin details before the main shape exists. The crown sits at the very top of the design in DMC 742 (Tangerine - Light) — stitch it last as a distinct finishing touch rather than working it in early, so the gold reads as a deliberate accent against a completed teal body instead of blending in. See our pixel art cross-stitch guide for more on this flat-color style, or our ocean and garden animal roundup for more small-scale critter designs to pair it with.
