A sloth in oversized gaming headphones, one paw raised mid-gesture, giving a look that says it just got out-played and is not happy about it. It’s the largest pattern in our vacation-animal batch at 74 x 96 stitches, with enough room for that skeptical expression to come through clearly.

About This Pattern

Where a lot of sloth-themed pieces lean on the tropical-relaxation cliché, this one is indoor energy — teal-and-blue over-ear headphones, a raised paw that reads as either a shrug or a callout, and an expression that’s somewhere between unimpressed and challenging you to a rematch. It’s an easy gift for the gamer in your life who also happens to like sloths, or just a fun desk-shelf piece for a game room.

This is the biggest stitch count in the batch at 5,166 total, but three colors do most of the heavy lifting: DMC 3032 (Mocha Brown Medium, 1,674 stitches), 645 (Beaver Gray Very Dark, 1,140 stitches), and 310 (Black, 1,067 stitches) together cover 3,881 stitches — about three-quarters of the whole design. That makes the sheer size manageable once you’re past the first few color blocks, even though the overall stitch count runs higher than a typical beginner piece.

Tips for Stitching This Pattern

Start with 3032 for the body — at nearly a third of the total design, getting that fur color blocked in first gives you the sloth’s full outline to work against for everything else. Add 645 for the shading and 310 for the facial features and headphone outline next, in that order, so the darkest details sit crisply on top of an already-complete base rather than getting stitched piecemeal alongside it. The headphones themselves use a tight cluster of blues (813 Blue Light, 598-adjacent teals) in a small area, so treat that as a standalone detail section once the head and ears are fully filled in — it’s much easier to keep the headphone shape symmetrical when you can see the whole head shape it’s sitting on. Stitch it alongside our coconut cocktail sloth for a matching pair that shows the same animal in two completely different moods — see our funny animal round-up for more patterns in this style.
