A sloth that has fully committed to vacation mode — teal sunglasses, a flower lei, and a coconut cocktail with a straw and leaf garnish, sipped without a trace of urgency. Sloths already have a reputation as the internet’s slowest, most relaxed animal, and putting one on a beach chair with a drink in hand is the logical endpoint of that joke.
About This Pattern
The appeal here is entirely in the details — the lei’s individual flowers, the coconut’s textured shell, the tiny straw bend — layered onto an animal whose whole cultural identity is “does not rush.” It works well as a beach-house or patio piece, or a housewarming gift for someone who just got back from vacation. At 60 x 84 stitches it’s a taller, narrower composition than most of our animal designs, which suits a vertical frame nicely. Pair it with our capybara and Hawaiian shirt penguin for a matching beach-themed trio, or stitch it alongside our gamer sloth to show off two very different sides of the same animal — see our funny animal round-up for the full collection. For a second home-bar piece, the Ginger Cat with a Citrus Cocktail has the same drink-in-hand humor.

Skill Level
DMC 612 (Drab Brown Light, 860 stitches), 310 (Black, 773 stitches), and 610 (Drab Brown Dark, 577 stitches) together make up just over half the design, giving you a solid core of large, easy-to-read color blocks before you get into the smaller cocktail and lei details. With 24 total colors it’s more thread-juggling than a true beginner piece, but none of the individual color blocks are especially fiddly on their own.

Tips for Stitching This Pattern
Fill the sloth’s face and body in 612 and 610 before touching the coconut cup — those two browns anchor the whole figure, and it’s much easier to judge whether the sunglasses and facial features (in 310 black) are sitting correctly once the head shape is already blocked in underneath them. The lei uses several low-count accent colors (819 Baby Pink and 3850 Bright Green Dark each show up fewer than 15 times), so stitch it as its own small project after the sloth’s body is finished rather than trying to weave it in alongside the larger color passes. Leave the coconut’s teal accents (598 Turquoise Light) for last — it’s a small, visually distinct area that’s easy to place accurately once everything around it is already stitched.
