A round-eyed black kitten in a lopsided purple witch hat soars mid-flight on a broomstick, an open spellbook tucked under one paw. The whole design is built almost entirely in near-black shading, so the small pops of purple hat and tan spellbook do a lot of visual work.
About This Pattern
A black cat on a broomstick is about as classic as Halloween cross-stitch gets, but the kitten’s oversized eyes and gentle grin keep this one firmly on the cute side of spooky — good for a front-window display, a gift for a cat-owning friend who loves October, or anchoring a seasonal gallery wall. It pairs naturally with our Duckling in a Ghost Costume for another kawaii-Halloween piece, or our Flower Crown Ghost if you want three non-scary Halloween pieces stitched as a set. It makes a witch-cat set with the Black Kitten Carrying Jack-o’-Lanterns and the Witch Kitten with Skull and Pumpkins.

Skill Level
DMC 924 (Gray Green - Very Dark) and 310 (Black) together cover 6,500 of the 12,912 total stitches, forming almost the entire cat’s body, and because both colors read as near-black at a glance, keeping them in the right zones (924 for the base coat, 310 for shadow depth) is what gives the fur its shape instead of flattening into one solid silhouette.

Tips for Stitching This Pattern
Stitch under strong, consistent lighting for this one specifically — with two very dark, closely related colors making up most of the design, it’s easy to lose track of which near-black shade you’re on under dim light, more so than on any of this batch’s lighter-palette patterns. See our pixel art cross-stitch guide for more on stitching high-contrast, dark-palette designs, or browse the rest of our Holiday patterns for more seasonal pieces.
