About this druid satyr cross stitch pattern

A broad, bearded satyr with curled horns frowns straight out of the picture, ready for trouble. He wears a green tunic covered in leaves, a brown belt with a gold buckle and leather boots wrapped in vines. In one hand he holds a twisted wooden staff with a glowing blue orb on top; on the other arm is a round wooden shield with a green tree in the middle.

It’s drawn like a game character portrait, so it suits a tabletop player, a gaming shelf or anyone who plays a druid. For a second forest spellcaster, The Wee Celtic Druid is a much larger piece in a softer style. The satyr’s browns and greens are a good place to practice matching close shades; our cross stitch thread guide explains how to keep similar DMC colors apart.

What you need

Difficulty and stitching time

It’s rated Intermediate because of its many close browns. The fur, the staff, the boots, the belt and the shield are all brown, in different shades placed side by side. At 4,236 stitches it takes roughly 42 to 71 hours at a steady 60 to 100 stitches an hour, and about a third of the fabric (35.4%) stays bare.

Tips for stitching this pattern

Size, fabric and framing

On 14-count Aida the finished design measures 5.7β€œ x 5.9β€œ (14.5 x 15.0 cm). On 16-count it comes out at 5.0β€œ x 5.1β€œ, and on 18-count at 4.4β€œ x 4.6β€œ. An 8β€œ x 10β€œ frame leaves room for a mat.

Stitched on 18-count it also fits a 5β€œ hoop to hang beside a game shelf.
