Planning a Halloween project

Halloween comes with a fixed deadline, so start from the finished size. A small design can be stitched over a few evenings; anything over about 12 inches takes a few months, so count back from the date you want it framed.

Dark designs need good light. Black cats and night skies are often built from two or three near-black shades that are hard to tell apart in a dim room, so stitch those areas in daylight or under a bright lamp, and keep each shade labeled on your floss card.
