About this pizza cross stitch pattern

A single slice, cut on the diagonal, with a browned crust along one edge, golden cheese and round pepperoni slices. A navy outline makes it read clearly even at under 2 inches across.

It’s a fun piece for a dorm room, a break-room board or anyone whose real favorite food is pizza, and small enough to turn into a magnet, a patch or a card. It goes well with the Kawaii Smiling Burger; our food collection has more.

What you need

• Fabric: 14-count Aida in white, cut to at least 8“ x 8“ (3“ around the design for hooping and framing).
• Thread: 6 DMC colors, about 6 skeins in total, stitched with two strands. The main colors are 3855 Autumn Gold – Light (92 stitches) and 939 Navy Blue – Very Dark (83).
• Needle: a size 24 tapestry needle.
• Stitches: full cross stitches only, with no backstitch.

Difficulty and stitching time

It’s rated Beginner and is one of the easiest ways to finish a first piece. With 350 stitches and 6 colors, it takes roughly 4 to 6 hours at a steady 60 to 100 stitches an hour. Tips for stitching this pattern

• Outline first. At this size, the 83 stitches of 939 Navy Blue – Very Dark are what make it read as a pizza slice, and getting the diagonal crust edge right keeps every other color inside a clean line.
• Do the pepperoni before the cheese. The red of 347 Salmon – Very Dark and 3777 Terra Cotta – Very Dark sits in small circles; stitch them, then fill the cheese around them.
• Keep it in your kit. It’s a good travel project or a quick break between bigger pieces.

Size, fabric and framing

On 14-count Aida the finished design measures 2.0“ x 1.7“ (5.1 x 4.3 cm). On 16-count it comes out at 1.8“ x 1.5“, and on 18-count at 1.6“ x 1.3“. For the 14-count version, a 5“ x 7“ frame leaves room for a wide mat.

It fits a 3-inch hoop, or finish it as a fridge magnet with a felt back.
