About this seahorse cross stitch pattern

The seahorse faces left with a big dark eye, a rosy cheek and a tail curled into a spiral, and a little gold crown sits on its head. An orange-and-yellow fin runs down its back, and a few bubbles float around it. The crown is what turns a simple ocean motif into something with personality.

It suits a child’s bathroom, a beach house or a coastal shelf that wants ocean themes without the usual anchors and stripes. Stitch it with the Leaping Dolphin for a matching pair; the small and mini patterns include more. New to cross stitch? What you need

Difficulty and stitching time

It’s rated Beginner. At 930 stitches it’s one of the quickest designs to finish, roughly 10 to 15 hours at a steady 60 to 100 stitches an hour, and two teals (959 and 3810) cover 531 of those stitches. The crown and fin add small, simple areas of yellow and orange.

Tips for stitching this pattern

Size, fabric and framing

On 14-count Aida the finished design measures 2.3β€œ x 3.7β€œ (5.8 x 9.4 cm). On 16-count it comes out at 2.0β€œ x 3.2β€œ, and on 18-count at 1.8β€œ x 2.9β€œ. For the 14-count version, a 5β€œ x 7β€œ frame leaves room for a mat.

It’s small enough for a 4-inch hoop, a bookmark-sized panel or a card front.
